Bassekou Kouyate

Bassekou Kouyate, a celebrated virtuoso of the Ngoni, the three- or four-stringed long-necked lute, is a master of subtle melody and a courageous innovator of the traditions of the Griots with Western music forms.

Kobalo (c: Steffi Dittrich)

Kobalo

It splatters, it sputters, it gurgles, it refreshes, it enlivens. Kobalo revolve around water. Inspired by the sounds water makes, these musicians use large and small pumpkin shells to evoke the spiritual world of West African water spirits, fish, crocodiles and people.

Karim Sanou describes his new musical project: “Our music is exciting and relaxing at the same time. It is both old and modern. We dedicate out music to those who still have to travel kilometers to reach the next source of water”. The four musicians live in Austria. For years their workshops and concerts have contributed to the musical variety of this country.
