Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings
City Hall/Arkadenhof 20.30
Soul and funk giant Sharon Jones once worked as a corrections officer at New York City’s notorious Rikers Island jail. She was discovered during a recording for funk legend Lee Fields. Her songs may sound straight from the early 1970s, but the emotion comes from right now.
Ambrose Akinmusire
Porgy & Bess 21.00
Trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire knows the rich heritage of jazz trumpet. But he also knows that he can afford fancy stuff, especially when it combines contemporary music with the achievements of tradition. As a sideman he did so with Grammy-star Esperanza Spalding, as soloist with pianist Jason Moran.
Célia Mara
Rathausplatz - admission free! 18.00
The Brazilian Célia Mara enjoyed her musical socialization between rural and urban musical sounds of Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. Her Samba Funk has sometimes jazzy sounds and above all: it is incredibly flamboyant.
