In 2007 Nathaniel Facey (alto saxophone), Shaney Forbes (drums), Lewis Wright (vibraphone) and Tom Farmer (bass) came together to form the jazz quartet Empirical, which soon made a name for themselves on the British jazz scene.
Their debut album won numerous prizes. Empirical’s fresh musical experiments reflect a deep knowledge of jazz history, but without losing of their music’s light-footedness.
Fascinating sound patterns, crisp solos, and an effusive love of the music are the band’s trademarks. Empirical is the best proof there is of a vibrant and thriving British jazz scene.
