Daniel Lanois

Due to an motorcycle accident of the artist the concert has to be postponed to next year. Tickets can be returned where they were purchased.

The successful Canadian producer Daniel Lanois was born in 1951 in Hull, Quebec. He and his brother Bob set up a home studio in their mother’s basement where he tinkered for years. He mailed his sound experiments on cassettes around the globe. Brian Eno heard one of them and soon began working with the Franco-Canadian. They collaborated on music for David Lynch films and for U2. U2’s “Unforgettable Fire” was such a success that the pair were entrusted with overseeing “The Joshua Tree”, “Achtung Baby”, and more recently “No Line on the Horizon”.

Even more impressive is Lanois’s work with Bob Dylan for whom he produced the albums “Oh Mercy” and “Time Out of Mind”. In between, he also produced Emmylou Harris, Chris Whitley, the Neville Brothers, Robbie Robertson, Willie Nelson and Ron Sexsmith. But Langois’s own music is equally worth listening to. His masterpieces include the instrumental “Belladonna” and the mystical songwriter album “Shine”.

His current musical project is called “Black Dub” and is a continuation of his earlier highlights. Along with his longtime musical collaborateurs – drummer Brian Blade, bassist Daryl “Da Bird” Johnson, and especially singer Trixie Whitley, daughter of the late blues singer Chris Whitley – he created sounds which leaves listeners breathless. Together they have created a mosaic of archaic Blues, powerful Punk, jazzy improvisations, and spherical experimentation. About “Love Lives”, one of his new songs, this is what the maestro has to say: “It’s not a song; it’s a sculpture from another galaxy.” And that it truly is.
